In India the word photocopier or Photocopy does not exist (or hardly exists) – Its all called Xerox because the first photocopiers here were by xerox. I think they still are – not sure.
So if you want a copy of a document, just walk up to these shops and ask for 3 Xerox or Zerox and it makes perfect sense to everyone. If you asked for a photocopy machine, you might get weird looks.
It is the same as Fevicol – our word for glue is Fevicol. At one point of time Cadbury was so popular in India, that chocolate bar was called cadbury by default. So someone who wanted to try an new brand would say – give me Nestle’s Cadbury. 😀
